Native American Wisdom

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.
"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.
"It is a terrible fight, and it is between two wolves.
One is evil, - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance,self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is good, - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility,kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
This same fight is going on inside you, - and inside every other person,too."
The grandson thought about it for a minute, then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee simply replied,"The one you feed."

This is how some people see your giveaway pets:

* Free bait to train fighting dogs.
* Free bait to train greyhounds.
* Free fish bait.
* Free snake food.
* Free money from the research lab.
* Free sacrifice for satanic rituals.
* Free animal for malicious pranks.
* Free animal to set on fire.
* Free animal to insert a firecracker into.
* Free to a good home to breed indiscriminately.

Now you know why rescues always charge adoption fees for our pets, and why we always sreen so carefully for good homes. "Free" is all too often seen as "worthless" in the eye of the beholder.

Please, don't offer your pets FREE to a good home, unless you just don't care what happens to them.

Do I Go Home Today?

My family brought me home cradled in their arms.They cuddled me and smiled at me and said I was full of charm. They played with me and laughed with me and showered me with toys.I sure do love my family, especially the little girls and boys. The children loved to feed me; they gave me special treats.They even let me sleep with them - all snuggled in the sheets. I used to go for walks, often several times a day.They even fought to hold the leash, I'm very proud to say! These are the things I'll not forget - a cherished memory.I now live in the shelter - without my family.They used to laugh and praise me when I played with that old shoe.But I didn't know the difference between the old one and the new.The kids and I would grab a rug, for hours we would tug.So I thought I did the right thing when I chewed the bedroom rug.They said I was out of control and would have to live outside.This I didn't understand, although I tried and tried!The walks stopped, one by one; they said they hadn't the time.I wish that I could change things; I wish I knew my crime.My life became so lonely in the backyard on a chain.I barked and barked all day long to keep from going insane.So they brought me to the shelter, but were embarrassed to say why.They said I caused an allergy, and then each kissed me goodbye.If I'd only had some training as a little pup,I wouldn't have been so hard to handle when I was all grown up."You only have one day left", I heard a worker say.Does that mean I have a second chance? Do I go home today?

It is essential to inform the pet shop customer of the types of lives these dogs live. The cages you will see are the cage these animals live in their entire lives. Wire floors allow the feces and urine to fall through the cage; automatic feeders allow food to be given to dogs from the outside of the cage; automatic waterers also allow the dogs to be watered from outside the cage, but they must lick a small ball repeatedly to release one drop of water at a time. These standards of care make it possible for a breeder to only touch or handle their dogs a few times a year--when they vaccinate/deworm, when they are placing dogs together for breeder, and when a female whelps puppies.
